Daphne Charles

Cofounder, Lead Architect, Instructor & Facilitator

Daphne is a licensed architect, natural builder, and educator. She cofounded Earthville Institute in the US and heads the design and architecture faculty there and at Dharmalaya Institute for Compassionate Living in the Indian Himalayas. She is also a Principal at Studio Lungta in Singapore and the US.

Growing up in both Singapore and Australia and working internationally, Daphne gained an early appreciation for diversity of experience and perspective. An avid student of the natural world and ancient wisdom traditions, Daphne grounds her work in the study of nature, particularly its harmony of patterns and proportions and its regenerative functions. This governs her intuitive approach to design and implementation as she seeks to embody these natural principles in her life and work. She believes in the power of mindful creativity to create socially responsive, life-affirming solutions that tread the earth lightly.

As a holistic architect, and in her work as an educator in architecture and design, Daphne specializes in natural materials, bio-architecture, and high-performance, low-cost healthy buildings. She is a certified Passive House consultant (CPHD) and is licensed as an independent Biogeometry Environmental Home Solutions Practitioner (BG-EGS). She studied Architecture at the University of Melbourne and the Royal Danish Institute of Fine Arts, graduating in 2006.

Daphne is also an experienced yoga teacher (and teacher trainer) and cofounder of Routes of Yoga.
