EMPOWERING COMPASSIONATE
CREATIVES & CHANGEMAKERS

Workshops & Retreats

Our workshops and retreats provide the perfect way to get your feet wet in the world of Earthville and gain introductory exposure to key concepts and practices. Workshops and retreats are designed to provide a strong taste of the topics they cover, going as deep as we can in a short time (generally one to four weeks).

Whether the subject is sustainability, earthen building, meditation, yoga, personal growth, or all of the above, these brief yet intensive experiences offer a compact introduction to vital topics and useful practices. They also serve as entry points (and test drives) for our longer-term programs, and as training for those who wish to volunteer.

For upcoming workshops and retreats, see our event schedule.

Internships

Earthville Institute’s internships are faculty-supervised service-learning programs designed to provide both practical experience and deeper theoretical knowledge in the context of a real-world work environment.

Like all of our programs, our internships take a contemplative, holistic approach fostering both professional development and personal growth. Earthville internships are open to all, including active professionals and students alike.

Adventurous souls might also be interested in the sustainability-related internships at our Himalayan sister school.

For details, see our internship page.

Our next internship program is the Summer of Sustainability 2024.

Volunteering as Service Learning

Volunteering is compassion in action — a noble expression of the spirit of service. At Earthville, we design our volunteer opportunities as learning experiences to create the best win-win exchanges.

We also take a contemplative approach to volunteering, working mindfully and with warm-hearted presence, aspiring toward the ideal of unselfish service for the greater good.

We welcome caring and committed volunteers who have relevant skills to offer. Don’t have skills yet? No problem: you can attend one of our training workshops to gain the skills, and in many cases it’s possible to stay on after the workshop to volunteer.

See our volunteering page and our event schedule.

  • Integrated personal and vocational development

  • Wise and compassionate leadership

  • The power of creativity to transform people and the world

THE EARTHVILLE DISTINCTION

Compassionate living in the lap of nature

With this precious opportunity to learn and work in the natural beauty of a 640-acre campus in the Four Corners region, we come face-to-face with the theory and practice of compassionate living.

A caring community of kindred spirits from diverse backgrounds

Our residential participants enjoy the opportunity to immerse in community life at Earthville Institute, learning and working in concert with people from around the globe. The safe and supportive environment enhances both our living and our learning, In fact, Earthville campus life itself is one of the most cherished aspects of the experience.

Contemplative service learning

All our programs share a common objective: to support participants to understand ourselves, our world, and our work more intimately.

Understanding that transformation takes time

We get that caring and passionate people like you aren’t looking for a shallow experience: we want the real thing. The best Earthville has to offer comes through long-term engagement and programs. Our participants whose lives have transformed most profoundly become part of our growing family of compassionate changemakers, returning again and again to continue expanding their knowledge and refining their practice.

What our participants appreciate most:

  • The rare opportunity to live in nature and learn from her

  • The healthy orientation of the place and its people

  • The emphasis on embodied learning and practice

"Now I see the secret of making the best persons. It is to grow in the open air and to eat and sleep with the earth."

— Walt Whitman
