Your donation supports the life-changing gifts of education for compassionate changemaking, holistic well-being, respect for nature, and skills for sustainable living.

You can also support the creation of the innovative eco-campus that supports all of this learning.

Earthville Institute relies on charitable donations to build our capacity to serve. We now have urgent need for support to develop our new flagship eco-campus in Colorado. With Earthville’s exceptionally low overhead (typically under 2%) and cost-efficient operations, you can give with confidence that your contribution will have maximum impact for the better with the lightest possible impact on the planet.

Earthville Institute’s parent organization earned a Platinum transparency seal from Candid/Guidestar (click to verify).

Earthville Institute is a 501(c)(3) public charity, and your contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Other ways to Give

Donating Material Goods

Second-hand doesn’t mean second-best. It means a second life for your stuff.

Earthville is grateful to accept donations of certain items outlined below. As we work to develop Earthville Institute’s campus, you might be surprised at how many basic and mundane things we might find useful!

Here are some items we can put to good use:

  • We have immediate need for solar PV panels, solar generator systems, and large-capacity battery storage systems to power our new eco-campus.

  • To help our volunteers get around our 640-acre campus and the surrounding area sustainably, we need mountain bikes in good condition. Both e-bikes and traditional bicycles are welcome.

  • Earthville Institute has immediate need for an electric tractor for the development of its organic farm and permaculture landscaping projects.

  • Buying a new car? If you’re in Colorado or northern New Mexico (or willing to drive there), we can accept your old car, truck, van, or SUV in working order as a charitable, tax-deductible donation.

  • To help provide accommodation for our volunteers and guests.

  • We have immediate need for tools of all kinds, including power tools, hand tools, and large shop tools, for the construction of our campus.

  • There is always a need for various technological tools in Earthville’s programs around the world. The following electronic items are especially useful:

    Computers, tablets, and smartphones

Laptop computers, iPads or iPhones: Upgrading your notebook/netbook/tablet computer? Donating your old portable computer could make a big difference for our students in the US or India. (We accept Mac, Linux, and Windows laptops, but only those less than four years old and in good working condition, with functioning batteries.) Donations of Apple iPads and iPhones less than four years old are also helpful.

Donating Macintosh desktop computers: We also have need for recent-model Apple Macintosh desktop computers (i.e. Mac Pro, Mac Studio, iMac and Mac mini less than four years old) and LED displays/monitors. (Windows desktops are not needed at this time.)

    Digital cameras and camcorders

Professional audio and 4K video equipment: Our documentary video projects have need for high-quality professional videography equipment (e.g. high-end prosumer or professional 4k UHD or better digital camcorders, especially tapeless models, and their accessories, including professional-quality tripods, lighting, etc.).

    Music/audio recording gear

Our Earthville Music project needs high-quality professional recording equipment (e.g. studio microphones, preamps, mixing consoles, outboard gear, and studio reference monitors) in good condition. We can also make good use of audiophile-quality music playback equipment (amps, speakers, etc.) and many kinds of musical instruments (in good playing condition).

All of these items can be delivered or shipped to our Colorado or California addresses, and we will provide you with a receipt for the fair-market value of the item that you can use for tax purposes.

  • Earthville is grateful to accept donations of real property including vacant land, homes, business/commercial properties, office space, or other real estate to help us expand our reach and our capacity to serve. We are especially interested in donations of real estate (both urban and rural) in Colorado and California, but our programs are always expanding and we can potentially make very good use of donated property anywhere in the US (and in other countries as well) for our diverse array of nonprofit activities. Donating real property to 501(c)(3) charitable organization such as Earthville is generally tax-deductible for the fair market value of the property (please consult your tax advisor for details). If you own a home, building, office space, commercial/retail space, or land that you might wish to donate to charity or make available for free, long-term use by Earthville, please contact us here and we will be happy to discuss possibilities with you.

  • Your donations of items that are in “good” condition or better are entitled to a tax deduction, according to Federal law.

If you itemize deductions on your federal tax return, you may be entitled to claim a charitable deduction for your Earthville donations. According to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), a taxpayer can deduct the fair market value of clothing, household goods, used furniture, shoes, books and so forth. Fair market value is the price a willing buyer would pay for them. Value usually depends on the condition of the item. By law, a charity cannot tell you what your donated items are worth. This is something you must do yourself. To assess “fair market value” for your donations Consult a local tax advisor who should be familiar with market values in your region.

Earthville is happy to provide a receipt as substantiation for your contributions in good used condition.

Here are some handy IRS tips for deducting charitable donations.
